How many times did you wear a t-shirt or a pair of jeans and they didn’t feel good or look good on you? Perhaps it is not the most critical question to ask yourself whether a piece of clothing looks good on you or not.

Now, you are probably wondering how it is not important an important question. It is not, because the most crucial element about clothing should be able to buy sustainable fabrics from eco-friendly brands.

One of the main reasons why eco-friendly clothing is so essential can be seen in the impact that the clothing industry has on the environment. Even if some sustainable fashion brands claim that their eco-friendly clothes are 100% sustainable, there is no such thing right now. On the other hand, we can choose to buy more ethical clothing or support slow fashion, by buying clothes from second-hand shops.

To help you choose your next sustainable bag or a pair of eco-friendly jeans is important to know better the materials used to produce clothes, starting from the least sustainable material, polyester. This material can be found in many of our clothes but is hardly biodegradable, which means that it will take between 20 to 200 years before breaking down. Additionally, polyester is produced from oil which is a major cause of pollution as well as requiring a large amount of water during the production process.
On the other hand, there are plenty of eco-friendly textiles which can help our planet’s ecosystem, one of those ones is Tencel. This organic material is made with wood pulp which means that it is biodegradable. Still, it got even more positive elements, Tencel needs very little water to be produced, and 99% of the water and solvent use can be recycled. So, even if Tencel is more expensive than other materials, it lasts longer is very durable, and is a great ethical material.

Hopefully, after reading this, you will change your mind about sustainable clothing, and you will help slow fashion to become a bigger movement around the world. Stay tuned for more info on sustainable materials.
Until next time.
